Burlington nonprofit TransitionsDMC will host a town hall at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at the Burlington Public Library to discuss the causes and scope of local homelessness and the shelter’s future plans.
Volunteer president and CEO Joseph Myers Sr. will lead the discussion, addressing common misconceptions, including the belief that substance abuse is the primary cause. While addiction is a factor in some cases, Myers said economic hardship is now the leading driver.
TransitionsDMC operates Burlington’s only low-barrier shelter and places roughly 80% of clients into permanent housing, double the national average.
