Proposed High-Voltage Transmission Line Could Cross Lee County

A Cedar Rapids energy firm is proposing a high-voltage transmission line through Lee County, with a public meeting set for May 6 at 12:30 p.m. at the Quality Inn & Suites in Fort Madison.

ITC Midwest, LLC aims to build a 345-kilovolt line stretching about 15 miles, beginning near Denmark and running southeast past Indian Path Park toward Fort Madison. Some sections would share space with existing lines, while others would require new right-of-way.

Landowners have received notices, and route changes are possible pending easement negotiations and Iowa Utilities Commission approval. Eminent domain has not been requested but may be pursued later if necessary.
