Fort Madison Mayor Matt Mohrfeld has announced he will not seek reelection at the end of his current term, which expires Dec. 31, 2025. The decision marks the end of a six-year run as mayor following previous service on the city council.
In his remarks, Mohrfeld said the announcement was made early to allow others interested in the position, whether on the council or in the community, ample time to consider a run. He described the decision as bittersweet but emphasized the importance of giving the role full dedication and then stepping aside to make room for fresh leadership and new ideas.
Reflecting on his time in office, Mohrfeld said he was proud of the progress the city has made under his leadership and expressed confidence in the city’s direction moving forward.
