Iowa House Reaches Threshold to Call Special Session Over Pipeline Veto

The Iowa House has gathered enough signatures to call for a special legislative session aimed at overriding Governor Kim Reynolds’ veto of a bill limiting the use of eminent domain for carbon pipeline projects. The House reached the required 67-member threshold with 70 lawmakers signing the petition.

Among those backing the effort are area representatives Heather Hora (HD92), Gary Mohr (HD93), Mike Vondran (HD94), Taylor Collins (HD95), and Blaine Watkins (HD100). They joined House Speaker Pat Grassley in opposing Reynolds’ veto, which many landowners and rural legislators viewed as a betrayal.

The Iowa Senate has not yet met the two-thirds threshold required to convene a session. The bill initially passed the Senate 27–22, falling short of that mark.
