The U.S. Senate narrowly passed President Donald Trump’s sweeping tax and spending bill Tuesday morning, with Vice President JD Vance breaking a 50-50 tie. Three Republicans, Thom Tillis, Susan Collins, and Rand Paul, joined Democrats in voting no.

The nearly 1,000-page bill makes Trump-era tax cuts for corporations and high earners permanent, adds new business breaks, and offers modest relief for some middle-income families. It also provides $350 billion for border enforcement and deportations while making deep cuts to Medicaid and food stamps.

A Congressional Budget Office report projects the bill will increase the deficit by $3.3 trillion over the next decade and leave 11.8 million more Americans uninsured by 2034. The bill now returns to the House, where changes made by the Senate could create further challenges ahead of Trump’s stated July Fourth deadline.
