A weekend pileup on I-80 has sparked new conversations about safety on this busy interstate. While mega pileups like the one last weekend are rare, crashes along I-80 are not. An analysis of hundreds of incident reports from the Iowa Department of Transportation shows the stretch of I-80 from LeClaire to Iowa City is among the most dangerous in Iowa. This year alone, there have been 431 crashes on interstates in Scott and Cedar counties. At least 161 resulted in injuries.
