Des Moines County Engineer Brian Carter said he was encouraged by the response to bidding for the rehabilitation and resurfacing project at the sheriff’s office parking lot.
The sheriff’s office sits across from the Des Moines County Courthouse in Burlington, and the planned work will add accessible entrances and designated handicap parking spaces. Carter told the Des Moines County Board of Supervisors during its regular weekly meeting that engineers had estimated the project would cost $300,000.
The Board of Supervisors approved a contract with Jones Contracting in the amount of $198,254.
Carter noted that the parking lot is currently in poor condition and said its appearance will be significantly improved once the project is completed.
