The Illinois Department of Revenue announced it will start processing 2025 state income tax returns on January 26, the same day the Internal Revenue Service opens filing for federal individual income taxes. Illinois taxpayers must submit their state returns by April 15.
The department is urging filers to submit their returns electronically and select direct deposit in order to receive refunds in the fastest and most secure manner.
