The Fort Madison Police Department says it is not aware of any Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in the area.
In a Facebook post Tuesday, the department said it had recently received reports from residents claiming ICE may be operating in Fort Madison. The post says that federal officials notify local police when operating in the area, and they haven’t received any such notice.
This is not the first time such rumors have circulated in the community.
Similar claims surfaced in August while organizers were preparing for Fort Madison’s 104th Mexican Fiesta, held in September.
