Two rescue helicopters were needed following a car accident Monday afternoon in Lee County. Sheriff’s officials there say the two-vehicle crash happened around 2:17 pm at the intersection of Highway 61 and 255th Street, just north of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. Three individuals from outside the area were involved in the crash, and all three sustained injuries.
Due to the nature of the crash, Highway 61 was temporarily shut down to allow first responders to safely manage the scene, provide assistance, and allow both MedForce and Air Evac to land on the roadway. The highway was later reopened once the scene was deemed safe for travel. The crash remains under investigation.
