There’s yet more controversy in Henry County after former Henry County Attorney Darin Slater resigned earlier this month.

The Hawk Eye reports that at the regular weekly meeting of the board Thursday, Bill Crawford from the Henry County Watchmen, a local group, handed over a petition with 285 signatures, imploring the board to hire Becky Wilson as interim County Attorney until the public votes on the office at the November general election.

Wilson had announced her candidacy for the position before the Stater resigned almost two weeks ago.

Supervisor Steve Detrick also accused county auditor Robin Detrick of “gatekeeping” during the meeting Thursday for not disclosing to the board that the county attorney’s administrative assistant Cara Ferguson, had also resigned.

Supervisor Chairman Chad White said when he asked Robin Detrick for a copy of Ferguson’s letter of resignation he was denied.

Assistant County Attorney Blake Vierra left his position in January to take a job with the Des Moines County Attorney’s office. The lone assistant county attorney, Steve Giebelhausen, does not reside in Henry County so is not eligible for election to the post.
