
A Lee County Supervisor is urging people across the region to pay attention to legislation around Home Rule moving through the Iowa legislature.
The Pen City Current reports that Supervisor Garry Seyb warned during a supervisor report period that Home Rule, which allows local governments to make decisions at the county and city level, is being challenged by state lawmakers.
There are two bills impacting home rule being studied in the state senate. Senate Study Bill 3135 proposes to streamline local boards of health into larger county or district boards.
Senate Study Bill 3009 would move most of the responsibilities of townships including fence disputes and fire service to the county level.
