The Fort Madison Police department may soon be getting a new K-9 unit vehicle. The vehicle will be purchased with money from opioid lawsuits. The Daily Democrat reports that the Lee County Opioid Committee gave their approval to the funding and that approval was echoed by the state auditor’s office, who Lee County Attorney Ross Braden had been skeptical would approve. With the approval, the K9 Unit vehicle proposal will be sent to the supervisors for their approval sometime in the coming weeks.
