The Des Moines County Board of Supervisors has set a public hearing date for its proposed Fiscal Year 2027 property tax levy.

Supervisors approved 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, as the time and date for the hearing during their regular meeting this week.

Under Iowa House File 718, passed in 2023, any municipality that levies property taxes must hold a public hearing before certifying its annual budget and setting the levy rate for the upcoming fiscal year. After that hearing, the governing body may lower the published rate, but it cannot raise it.

The board has proposed a levy rate that is a tenth of a cent lower than last year’s rate of $10.42 cents per $1000.
