Flags across Iowa are being lowered to half-staff to honor two Iowa soldiers killed in a recent drone attack in the Middle East.
Kim Reynolds ordered all flags on public buildings, grounds, and facilities in the state to be flown at half-staff in memory of Major Jeffery O’Brien and Sergeant Declan Coady. The order will remain in effect until sunset on the final day of interment for the two soldiers.
Both O’Brien and Coady served with the 103rd Sustainment Command and were among six U.S. service members killed in a March 1 drone strike in Kuwait.
State officials say the tribute recognizes the soldiers’ service and sacrifice while honoring their families and fellow service members during a time of mourning.
