The Iowa Army Ammunition Plant remains temporarily closed following an undisclosed incident that prompted a broad safety review.

Justine Barati, Director of Public and Congressional Affairs with the Joint Munitions Command, confirmed to the Pen City Current that operations at the Middletown facility are still shut down.

Barati also addressed several rumors circulating on social media, stating there were no drones at or over the facility, no explosion occurred, and no munitions are missing.

She later added that no dangerous materials were uncovered during ongoing construction work at the site.

The plant recently signed a contract worth more than $635 million to add a new production line.

Barati says information about when the facility will reopen will be released when it becomes available.

Employees were sent home abruptly around noon Thursday, with reports indicating they were told to gather their belongings and leave the facility immediately.
