The West Burlington School District could soon have a dedicated school resource officer again.
During Wednesday’s meeting, the West Burlington City Council moved forward with plans to enter into a 28E agreement with the school district to provide the position.
City Administrator Gregg Mandsager said the district would cover the cost of a sworn officer from the city’s police department to be assigned to school buildings.
To make up for that staffing shift, the city plans to apply for a federal COPS Hiring Program grant to fund an additional officer for the department.
