The Iowa Army Ammunition Plant will resume full operations today following a temporary shutdown that began March 12.

The pause was ordered by the federal government to allow for a safety review related to the storage of lead azide. Officials say employees with American Ordnance LLC are returning to the facility, with production restarting after safety protocols were reviewed and updated.

Plant commander Daniel V. Nosse said protecting workers, the surrounding community, and the environment remained the top priority. Officials added that the public will be notified once a final disposal plan for the lead azide is determined.
