A man from Mount Pleasant is facing theft charges after allegedly taking materials from railroad property over the weekend.
According to local police, officers were called Sunday evening to a BNSF Railway staging area in the 400 block of North Hamlin Street following a report of theft. Investigators say a man entered the property without permission and loaded 11 metal railroad tie plates into a pickup truck before leaving. A BNSF special agent confirmed no one is authorized to remove items from the site.
Video footage reportedly captured the suspect placing the materials into a silver pickup. Officers later identified the individual as Bradley Bohnenkamp and located him at a residence on West Washington Street, where both the suspect and vehicle were found. The stolen items were visible in the truck bed.
Authorities say Bohnenkamp admitted to taking the plates, which are valued at $21 each, totaling $231. Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
