A late-night traffic stop in Des Moines County led to multiple felony drug charges for a 59-year-old Illinois man last week..

According to the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped a vehicle driven by Alfred Lee Dunigan of Alton, Illinois around 1:20 a.m. March 25th near the intersection of Sycamore and North Ninth Streets after identifying the driver as having a barred license.

During the stop, deputies learned Dunigan was in possession of marijuana and crack cocaine. A search of his person allegedly turned up those substances along with drug paraphernalia.

Dunigan was taken into custody and initially charged with driving while barred, possession of drug paraphernalia, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense.

Authorities say an additional narcotic—fentanyl—was discovered during the booking process at the Des Moines County Correctional Center, leading to another felony possession charge. Dunigan remains in custody at the jail.
