Researchers at Iowa State University are developing a new artificial intelligence tool designed to help farmers identify and manage pests in their fields.
The tool, an app called “Pest ID,” allows users to upload photos of weeds or insects and receive identification along with guidance on how to remove them. The technology has been in development for about a decade, using thousands of images and expert data to train the system.
Researchers say the goal is to make pest identification faster and more accessible for farmers, helping them respond more effectively in the field.
Work is also underway to expand the app’s capabilities to identify plant diseases that can impact crops.
The current version of the Pest ID app is already available for use.
