
Republican Adam Steen says if he’s elected governor he’ll push for a lot more state funding of independent research about cancer rates in Iowa and he’d set up a working group within state government to develop a response. Eddie Andrews, a state legislator, is proposing state subsidies to provide free or reduce cost screening tests to ensure more cases of cancer are detected in an early stage when treatment is most effective. Williamsburg pastor Brad Sherman says funding alone won’t solve the cancer crisis and he’d promote growing more of the food Iowans eat in Iowa — so Iowans are eating healthy food. The candidates made their comments last (Tuesday) night during a debate on Iowa P-B-S.
