Two of Burlington’s Schools will see new principals for the 2026/2027 school year. Effective July 1, Brandon Kurovski will serve as the principal of Burlington High School. The Hawkeye reports that Kurovski has been working in education for nearly 15 years, starting as a social studies teacher at BHS before joining the school’s administrative team —first as dean of students in 2022, then as assistant principal in 2023. Kurovski will take the place of Nathan Marting, who will take on the role of superintendent of the Burlington Community School District effective July 1, following the retirement of Superintendent Scott. Also on July 1, Marissa Riffel will become principal of the very school she attended as a child, Sunnyside Elementary. She will take over from Tim Bolander, who will retire at the end of this school year. Riffel comes to Sunnyside from Aldo Leopold Intermediate School, where she has been an assistant principal since 2024.
