The Lee County Board of Supervisors finally came to an agreement on the proposed budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 and agreed to lower the county’s tax levy rate even further. The Daily Democrat reports the supervisors also agreed to approve controversial raises for themselves after a debate over the size of those proposed raises continued up until the last minute during their meeting on Tuesday morning. The supervisors had initially approved only a 10-cent reduction to the FY 2027 tax levy rate, but following criticism by some members of the public and a letter from Lee County Farm Bureau sent to the supervisors earlier this month the supervisors agreed to move forward with the 58-cent levy rate reduction during a workshop session last week. As far as salaries go, the supervisors will see their salaries increase from $29,185.92 to $40,000, with Board Chair Ginger Knisley receiving an extra $2,500. The amount of those raises has drawn criticism from some in the county.
