One Keokuk Police Officer, and two Lee County Sheriff Deputies received a letter of commendation from Keokuk Police Chief Zeth Baum. Captain Jacob Moore, Deputy Bryson Hennigar, and Deputy Chris Schneider were commended for their actions during a high-risk incident involving an armed subject on April 9th. Officers were dispatched to a report of a man who had unlawfully entered a private residence while armed with a handgun and was threatening to harm himself. Upon arrival, the situation quickly escalated when the subject was observed outside the residence, moving toward a busy roadway in close proximity to the Hoerner YMCA and the Keokuk High School. The officers quick and decisive actions saw the subject taken into custody without injury to the subject, officers, or members of the public.
