Fuel prices in Iowa have climbed sharply in the past week, continuing a broader upward trend.

According to data from GasBuddy, the average price of gasoline in Iowa is now $4.22 per gallon, up 25.9 cents in one week. That places prices 52.4 cents higher than a month ago and about $1.35 higher than this time last year.

Nationally, gasoline averages $4.48 per gallon, while diesel stands at about $5.62, reflecting only a slight weekly increase but a much larger year-over-year rise.

Within Iowa, prices remain highly variable. The lowest reported station was $3.38 per gallon, while the highest reached $5.18, a spread of $1.80 statewide.
