The West Point City Council voted unanimously Monday night to purchase a building on the west side of the city square that will become the community’s new City Hall.
According to City Administrator Randy Welding, the current City Hall building has ongoing mold issues and is becoming too expensive to maintain because of its age.
The city approved the purchase of the building at 310 Fourth Street for $225,000. The property is currently owned by Big Timber Construction LLC and listed through Fraise Real Estate.
Mayor Gary Peitz said the city has enough money in its general fund to purchase the property outright without borrowing.
