The Central Lee Community School District is exploring a possible move from the Southeast Iowa Super Conference to the Southeast Conference.

Activities Director Tyler Bryant recently presented the idea to the school board, saying the district’s growing enrollment and long-term athletic goals prompted the discussion.

Bryant said one of the biggest reasons for considering the switch is to increase playing opportunities for junior varsity and middle school athletes, particularly in sports like basketball and volleyball where participation numbers continue to rise.

He also pointed to financial structure differences between the conferences, along with improved scheduling flexibility and more manageable travel arrangements.

Bryant said the move could also help Central Lee better prepare for postseason competition by consistently facing larger schools and stronger athletic programs.

Currently, Central Lee is the largest school in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference. Bryant noted the district would become the smallest school in the Southeast Conference, though he said enrollment trends suggest the gap between schools may continue to narrow over time.
