Cyclists from across the United States and other countries are expected in Burlington over this Memorial Day weekend for the Snake Alley Criterium, drawing both amateur and professional riders.

The 42nd annual Snake Alley Criterium in downtown Burlington takes place this Saturday. Riders will compete on a 14-block, 0.9-mile course through city streets, featuring the steep climb up Snake Alley, the historic brick roadway often referred to as “the crookedest street in the world.”

According to organizers, the 276-foot alley includes five switchbacks and a 60-foot climb with an average grade of 12.5%, making it one of the Midwest’s most demanding cycling events.
