Obituaries Tuesday April 16th

William “Bud” Wayne Parker, 77, of Burlington, died at 2:45 AM Sunday, April 14, 2013, at his home in Burlington.

 

Born May 21, 1935, in Industry, IL, he was the son of William H. and Ruth Alleyne James Parker. On August 26, 1962, he married Mary A. Palmer in Burlington.

 

Bud worked for the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant from 1966 to 2000, he also co-owned Parker Cycle Sales.

 

He graduated from Industry High School, in 1954.

 

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from 1958 until 1960.

 

He was a member of the American Motorcycle Association and raced motorcycles. He enjoyed tinkering with anything mechanical, welding, and coon and fox hunting. He also collected old tractors. He loved children. 

 

Survivors include his wife, Mary; two sons, Kevin (Kimberly) Parker of NC and Tony (Amy) Parker of Burlington; one daughter, Belinda of Burlington; six grandchildren, Kirstie, Brady, Tyler, Justin, Jesse, and Erica; one great-grandson, Ayden; one sister, Sue Woodside of Littleton, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert Parker and Ben Parker.

 

Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The funeral service for Mr. Parker will be 10:30 AM Friday, April 19, 2013, at Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Mumma officiating.  Burial will be in .

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the American Cancer Society, Great River Hospice, and Pinhook Park in Industry.

Loretta Jeanne Vogelgesang, 90, of Burlington, died at 5:28 PM Sunday, April 14, 2013, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

 

Born December 23, 1922, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Anthony and Mary Theresa Sullivan Catanzano. On September 12, 1953, she married Charles Frederick “Sam” Vogelgesang in Burlington. He died April 19, 2005.

 

Jeanne was a transportation specialist for Arledge Transfer for many years.

 

She was a 1940 graduate of Burlington High School and then graduated from Burlington Business College later in 1940.

 

She was a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church, where she had served as Eucharistic minister and helped with funeral lunches, and was a Teamsters member.  She had taught C.C.D. and volunteered for Hope Haven.  She was a world traveler and enjoyed dancing, fishing, and shopping. She was a silent hero and spent most of her life helping anyone who needed it.  The most important things to her in life where God and family.

 

Survivors include one son, Charles “Chuck” E. Vogelgesang of Burlington; two daughters, Carol J. Hodapp of Westford, MA, and Judi M. Petruska of Northville, MI; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and one sister.

 

Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM with the family to receive friends following a 4:00 PM Rosary and Chaplet of Mercy Service until 6:00 PM Friday, April 19, 2013, at Thielen Funeral Home.

 

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Vogelgesang will be 10:00 AM Saturday, April 20, 2013, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Father Bruce A. DeRammelaere as the Celebrant.  Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir.  Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.  A time of food and fellowship will be held in St. John’s cafeteria following the burial.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Hope Haven and SS. John and Paul Catholic Church.
