Robert F. Carter, 77, of Fort Madison, IA, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 6:17 p.m. at the FortMadisonCommunityHospital. He was born on February 14, 1936 to Robert F. & Ruby Belle Rowland Carter III. He married Janis J. Worman on April 15, 1952 in Kahoka, MO. He retired from the Iowa State Penitentiary with 38 years of service. He was a member of Living Hope Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. He enjoyed telling jokes, singing, playing the guitar, lighthouses, watching old television shows and spending time with his family. He always thought of others first and took great pride in taking care of his wife, Janis.
Bob is survived by: his wife: Janis Carter of Fort Madison, IA; 1-daughter: Candice Carter of Glenwood, IA; 4-sons: David (Emily) Carter of Quincy, IL, Steven (Monica) Carter of Fort Madison, IA, Greg Carter of Iowa City, IA & Jaydee Carter of Fort Madison, IA; 9-grandchildren; 9-great grandchildren & 1-brother: Jerry (Pat) Carter of Bettendorf, IA. He was preceded in death by: his parents, 3-sisters & 5-brothers.
Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 11, 2013 with the family to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Living Hope Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Jim Hofmann officiating. His body will be cremated following the funeral service and burial will be held at a later date in OaklandCemetery. A memorial has been established for the Living Hope Church of the Nazarene or Special Olympics. Kyler Ray Schnedler, age 12 of Mediapolis, died Wednesday November 6, 2013 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The son of Mathew and Alissa (Drebenstedt) Schnedler, he was born August 18, 2001 at Burlington. He was a 6th grader at Mediapolis Schools. He attended CornerstoneCommunityChurch in Mediapolis and was active in the 5:16 Youth Group. He enjoyed duck hunting, fishing and was an avid artist. Kyler gave the gift of life by being an organ donor.
Survivors include: his Father, Mat and Julie Schnedler of Mediapolis; his Mother, Alissa and Derek Massner of Mediapolis; four brothers, Adam Massner, Lane Schnedler, Reese Campbell and Nolan Massner; one sister, Emily Schnedler; grandparents, Randy and Kathy Schnedler of Mediapolis; Dean and Sherry Crooks of Springhill, Fla.; Richard and Beth Drebenstedt of Mediapolis; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his great grandparents.
The funeral service will be Tuesday November 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the HarmonyBibleChurch, with Pastor Ryan Budde officiating. Cremation will be accorded following the service and a private burial will be at a later date.
Friends may call on Monday from 2-7:00 p.m. at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, where the family will meet with friends from 4-7:00 p.m. The casket will remain closed. In lieu of flowers, a general memorial has been established in his name.

Calvin Oscar “Sonny” Davis ,76, of Burlington, died at 9:43 PM Saturday, November 9, 2013, at the Burlington Care Center as a result of complications from diabetes.
Calvin was born at home on September 5th, 1937, in Port Louisa, Iowa (now Port Louisa National Wildlife Refuge) to parents Oscar Daniel Davis and Katherine Sarah Gerst.
Calvin attended Burlington High School prior to his enlisting in the United States Navy in September of 1954, serving at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center and at Norfolk Virginia aboard the USS Donner before discharge in 1958. Later he served for several years in the US Naval Reserve. He attended Burlington Junior College in 1959.
On July 25th, 1959 he married Alice Pemble of Burlington. They later divorced.
Mr. Davis was a member of Operating Engineers Local 150 where he worked operating a cable crane. Calvin was the cable crane operator on Burlington’s Great River Bridge, a project in which he took great pride.
Mr. Davis was a member of the Circle Square B Square Dance Club in Fort Madison, Iowa and was a regular visitor to the Burlington Senior Center. He also enjoyed attending local auctions where he found various ‘treasures’. Calvin loved sharing with people his genealogy which he traced back to Sacajawea – the Shoshone woman who guided Lewis & Clark across the Louisiana Purchase in 1804. His greatest enjoyment though, was spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by two sons, Guy Davis of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and Kevin (Laura) Davis of Burlington, and one daughter Julie (Pete) Brueck of Burlington, seven grandchildren, 4 brothers and one sister.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
According to his wishes, cremation will be entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory with a private family service at a later date.
The family asks that any donations in Calvin’s name be made to The Des Moines County Humane Society or The Salvation Army.
