Authorities shut down the intersection of Gear and Division in West Burlington at around 10:30am today after a natural gas line ruptured.
West Burlington Fire Chief Mike Heim was at the scene when we got there…
“Basically, a fiber optics company nicked a gas line that was going up to the Klein Center. It was a 2-inch line with 90 pounds of pressure in it. It turned loose quite a volume of gas for about an hours time.”
The gas has been shut off so the line can be replaced…
“The big thing of the day was this cold northwest wind was blowing the gas off across the corn field, which was an ideal situation.”
Heim believes the gas to the Klein Center will be restored later this afternoon so they have heat tonight.
