Lois L. Fowler, 88, of Colusa, IL passed away at 5:15 am Sunday, August 23, 2015 at the Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst, IL. She was born on September 16, 1926 in Fort Madison, IA the daughter of Frank and Leola Little Lionberger. On October 4, 1947 she married Relly A. Fowler in Colusa. He preceded her in death on July 4, 2013.
Mrs. Fowler was Valedictorian of the Colusa High School Class of 1944, she then attended Western Illinois State Teachers College in Macomb, IL. She taught school for a short time prior to her marriage. After her marriage she was an active farm wife and mother. She hosted the annual Salt Box Bazaar at the Historic Cambre Farm near Niota, IL for many years. She was a member of the Colusa United Methodist Church, the Miniature Horse Registry, and was known for her antique collections, quilts and needlepoints.
Survivors include two sons, William (Barb) Fowler of Dallas City, IL, David (Christel) Fowler of Aledo, IL, two daughters, Carol (Richard) Leenerts of Blandinsville, IL, Janice (Robert) Daugherty of Dallas City, nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, two sisters Elizabeth (William) Hull of Colusa, and Clara Jean (Jerald) Boyd of LaHarpe, IL.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister, Betty Syfert, and one brother, William Lionberger.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 28, 2015 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, with pastor David Poland officiating. Burial will follow in the Harris Cemetery, Dallas City. A visitation will take place on Friday from 9:00 AM until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established for the Muscatine, IA Agricultural Learning Center and the Ronald McDonald House, Iowa City, IA. Condolences may be left at banksandbeals.com.
Douglas “Doug” R. Rettig, 52, Burlington died Friday 8/21 in Middletown.
He is survived by his wife Sharon Carter of Burlington, parents, Ralph and Marilyn Rettig of Augusta, IA, daughter, Jodi McBride of Burlington, step-daughters, Treka Desir of Round Rock, TX and Illia Cartmill of Burlington, step-son, Anton Carter of Keokuk, sisters Julie Rettig of Fort Madison and Michelle Terhune of Augusta, IA, 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Memorial Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wed 8/26 in Lunning Chapel with burial in the Augusta Cemetery in Augusta, IA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Lunnings.
