Sally Jo (Shoemate) Luder, 59, of Dallas City, IL passed away at 11:21 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at the Great River Medical Center, West Burlington, IA.
She was born in Carthage, IL on May 13, 1956 the daughter of John H. and Delores E. Krow Shoemate. On November 3, 1979, she married Dorn J. Luder at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Nauvoo, IL.
Mrs. Luder was a 1974 graduate of the Dallas City High School. She loved to do crossword puzzles, put puzzles together, puzzle books, and was an avid reader. She loved to spoil her grandchildren. Sally worked many years at the Dallas City Elementary School and the former Woodlands. She also served as an election judge, committee member of Ducks Unlimited and a member of the NRA, Dallas City Rural Fire Department and a volunteer at The John Shoemate Memorial Kids Fishing Tournament.
Besides her husband, survivors include, her mother, Delores of Dallas City, one daughter, Jessica (Alan) Menke of Salem, IA, four grandchildren, Emma, Nicholas, Addison, and Jillian, one sister, Peggy Newberry of Dallas City, three brothers, Jeffrey (Becky) Shoemate of Ft. Madison, IA, James (Teresa) Shoemate of Burlington, IA and John (Angela) Shoemate of Fort Madison, two sister-in-laws, Ruth Ann (JB) Smith of Galesburg, IL and Charleen (late Jim) Peterson of Dallas City, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Sally was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City with Father Tony Trosley and Rev. Jim Luder officiating. Burial will be held at Harris Cemetery, Dallas City. Friends may call after 3:00 p.m. Friday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City where the Rosary will be recited at 4:45 p.m. followed by visitation with the family until 8:00 p.m.. Rebecca L. Rettig, 59, of Iowa City, IA passed away at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City.
She was born on October 10, 1956 in Fort Madison, IA the daughter of William G. and Martha Bell Bice Rea. In July of 1977 she married Gary J. Rettig. They later divorced.
Rebecca grew up in Niota, IL and was a 1974 graduate of the Nauvoo/ Colusa High School, Nauvoo, IL. She worked at Methode in Carthage, IL for many years and also cared for the elderly. She had resided in Iowa City for the past 16 years.
Survivors include, one daughter, Lisa (Evan) Sara of Dallas, TX, one step-granddaughter, Ally Sara, two brothers, Rick Rea of Niota, IL and Roger Rea of Evington, Virginia and two sisters, Rhonda Chamlee of Jonesboro, AR and Rita Renshaw of Burlington, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Roxanna Petty.
The family will receive friends from noon until 2:00 Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, IL followed by a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. at Thornber Cemetery, Powellton, IL. Condolences may be left at banksandbeals.com.
Ivan “Kenny” Thomas, 80, Gladstone died Wed 4/6 at the Great River Hospice House.
He is survived by his wife, Phillis, a son, Andrew of Burlington, 3 daughters, Marguerite Fehseke of Corydon, IA, Debbie Bailey of Oquawka and Susan Swanson of West Burlington, a brother, Richard of Hopkins, SC, 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Mon 4/11 at Lunning Chapel with burial in the Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Lunnings.
