A Keokuk schoolteacher has died after being hit by a minivan Tuesday morning.
Authorities say that 46-year-old Kirsten Wrieden was killed in the accident, which occurred shortly before 6:30 on Tuesday morning.
The Iowa State Patrol Crash Report says that a car driven by 36-year-old Jason Marliere of Keokuk swerved to avoid a small animal which ran onto the road, when he struck Wrieden. Wrieden had been thrown into the ditch, she was pronounced dead on the scene.
Marliere said he was looking to the right to identify the animal when he heard his vehicle hit an object.
School officials say Wrieden was a first-grade teacher at Hawthorne Elementary School.
