Obituaries Wednesday June 3rd

Mr. Robert C. Porter, 70, of Dallas City, IL passed away at 4:03 AM Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, IA.

He was born November 17, 1944 in Blytheville, AR, the son of Hugh E. And Arlene Nessa Scott Porter. On March 31, 1989 he married Sharon E, Whittlesey.

Mr. Porter was a graduate of the Dallas City High School. He worked at J.I. Case Co for 32 years, retiring in 1995.

He was a member of camping clubs and the Carthage Gun Club. He enjoyed boating. Earlier in life he participated in drag racing and still enjoyed following the sport. He also enjoyed Nascar and was a Dale Earnhardt fan and in Sprint Car racing his favorite driver was Steve Kinser.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Debbie (Charlie) Newman of Dallas City and Wendy (Mike) Porter of New London, IA, one son Robert (Phyllis) Porter of Wever, IA, three step-children, Rick Burford of South Dakota, Greg (Dawn) Burford of Kenosha, Wisconsin and Deborah Burford of Des Moines, IA, 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday June 6, 2015 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Pastor Doug Clark officiating. Burial will be in the Dallas City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends on Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of services. A memorial fund has been established for the Great River Hospice House. Warren F. Traman, 96, former resident of Burlington, Iowa, died at Solon Retirement Village, Solon, Iowa, on Tuesday, May 26, 2015.

Born on March 4, 1919 in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Herbert H. and Mabel M. (Young) Traman. He married Bonnie L. Lovejoy on June 16, 1946 in Burlington, Iowa. She died on March 29, 2001.

Warren served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed at J.I Case Co. for over 40 years, retiring in 1980. He was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was active in many Burlington community activities including Visiting Nurses Association, YMCA Keenagers, and the Burlington Visitors Center.

He is survived by one daughter, Priscilla Traman of Iowa City, Iowa; one granddaughter, Natasha Johnson of Iowa City, Iowa; and one great-grandson, Treymire Johnson. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

The celebration of life service and visitation will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at 3:00 p.m at Prugh’s Chapel, 317 N. 4th St., Burlington, Iowa. Pastor Ryan Cosgrove will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date. Joyce Ann Ewing, 73, of Burlington, Iowa, died at Great River Hospice House, West Burlington, Iowa, on Monday, June 01, 2015.

 

Born on July 26, 1941 in Keokuk, Iowa, she was the daughter of Edgar R. and Delores H. Malloy Hatfield. She married Richard Ewing in September of 1958; they later divorced. She married August “Bill” Von Ende in December of 1979. He died on June 28, 1994.

 

Joyce was a Security Guard at J.I. Case Co. and worked production at General Electric. Her joy in life was her family and spending time with them. She cherished her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed yard sales, card games and board games to socialize with her friends. She was of the Christian faith.

 

She is survived by one daughter, Geraldine Ewing of Burlington, Iowa; two sons, Shane Ewing of Burlington, Iowa and Lance Ewing of West Burlington, Iowa; three grandchildren, Wesley Ewing, Wriglee Ewing and Ryne Ewing; two brothers, Phillip Speaks of Burlington, Iowa and twin brother, Jerry Hatfield of Keokuk, Iowa; several nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson, one sister and one brother.

 

The memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Prugh’s Chapel. Interment of ashes will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.
