Mary Ann Ryan, age 86, of Wapello, died Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at the Wapello Specialty Care. The daughter of Wilbur and Bertha Logsdon Drake, she was born on July 26, 1931, in Boone. Mary Ann graduated from Knoxville High School in 1949 and attended Iowa State University. She married Wayne E. Ryan on October 7, 1951, in Knoxville. He preceded her in death on February 16, 2000.
Mary Ann was a loving mother, a homemaker, and a supportive partner with her husband in the farming operation of the Family Sesquicentennial Farm. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wapello and the UMW having served as President for a time. She was also member of the Friendly Neighbors Club and the Wapello Study Club. She had been active as a 4-H Leader and was an avid fan of Iowa State University, specifically of football, basketball, and marching band programs. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, and playing games with her family, including the grandchildren.
Her family includes six children, William ‘Bill’ & Denise Ryan of Columbus Junction, Nancy & Michael Tometich of Mt. Pleasant, Roy Ryan of West Branch, Clinton & Doris Ryan of Wapello, Martha Young of West Burlington, and Linda Trusty of Mediapolis; six grandchildren, Andrea & Mark Irlbeck, Lisa & Zach Klocksiem, Abbigale Young, James D. Trusty, Mark Trusty, and David Miller; three great grandchildren; and a sister, Susan Scott of Aurora, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne; son-in-law, William Trusty, Sr.; daughter-in-law, Kathy Ryan; and a sister, Sally Bergendahl.
The family will meet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, December 19, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello.
The funeral ceremony for Mary Ann Ryan will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 22, 2017, at the United Methodist Church in Wapello with Rev. Pam Kranzler and Pastor Marsha Gerot officiating. Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery with a lunch following at the Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
Memorial gifts will benefit the United Methodist Church, the Wapello Rescue Unit, and the Wapello Food Pantry.
