Genesis Garden Executive Director John Curtis said they bought the house four years ago and are almost finished with the remodel. He said this will be the only homeless shelter that suits families, with five bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a full kitchen.

He also said there will also be a handicap accessible room downstairs.

Their goal is to have families moved in by the end of January.

He said there’s a big need in Macomb for shelters, as the only other one is often full.

Curtis said they are holding an open house on December 6 at 4:30 pm. He said the open house is open to the public and will include a ribbon-cutting and tours of the new facility.
