Obituaries Tuesday August 26th

Jane Lewis, 92, of Burlington, died at 3:45 PM Friday, August 22, 2014, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

 

Born November 19, 1921, in Middletown, OH, she was the daughter of Herbert A. and Ruth Ferree Dennis and raised by her mother and step-father, Art Meyer. On December 29, 1941, she married Richard Alonzo Lewis in Greenville, Ohio. He preceded her in death on October 27, 2013.

 

Being an Army wife, Jane stayed at home to help raise their five children.

 

She was a member of First Methodist Church Quilters, and was an avid quilter and gardener. She loved spending time with all her grandchildren.

 

Survivors include three sons, Dick (Annie) Lewis of Niland, CA, Dennis (Clarice) Lewis of Dublin, OH, and Tom (Deb) Lewis of Topeka, KS; two daughters, Suzanne (Gary) Orton of Burlington and Jane Ann (John Leathers) Goulden of West Burlington; 16 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

 

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and one sister.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

 

No visitation is planned.

 

The memorial service for Mrs. Lewis will be 9:00 AM Monday, September 8, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home. The private graveside service for Mr. and Mrs. Lewis will be in Rock Island National Cemetery with full military honors.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Des Moines County Humane Society and PAW Animal Shelter in Fort Madison.

Arlene Elizabeth Fedoris, age 86, of Mediapolis, died Sunday evening, August 24, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. The daughter of Alfred and Florence Nordstrom Aspelmeier, she was born on April 19, 1928 in Mediapolis. She married Charles ‘Chuck’ Fedoris on May 31, 1948 in Davenport. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1988.

Arlene graduated from Mediapolis High School in 1946. She was a secretary working in several places in the Burlington and Mediapolis area. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dodgeville, the Red Hat Society, the Golden Age Club, and several card clubs. Arlene especially appreciated her family and enjoyed watching her grandchildren’s activities.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie Tribbey of Mediapolis; two sons, Andy & Joan Fedoris of Nebraska City, Nebraska and Joe & Krystal Fedoris of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Anna, Andrew, Ben, Joseph, Izzie, Nick, and Gage Fedoris. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, ‘Chuck’.

The funeral ceremony for Arlene Fedoris will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dodgeville. Father David Steinle will officiate. Burial will follow at Kossuth Cemetery in Mediapolis followed by a fellowship lunch at St. Mary’s Fellowship Hall. A Rosary will be held at 5:00 PM on Tuesday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis followed by the family meeting friends until 7:00 PM.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of Great River Hospice, Mediapolis Community Theatre, and the Mediapolis Public Library.

Margaret Evelyn Shipley Brown, 94, of Birmingham, Michigan, and formerly Sun City West, Arizona, died April 10, 2013 and her husband

Ronald Rex Brown, 96, of Birmingham, Michigan and formerly of Sun City West, Arizona died May 2, 2014.

 

Memorial services for Ronald and Margaret Brown will be held jointly at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Elliott Chapel, New London. Ms. Carrie Duncan will officiate. Inurnment will be in Jaggar Cemetery, rural Danville. Military Rites will be presented by the Henry County Honor Guard at the chapel.

 

Jill E. McCann, 66, of Burlington, Iowa, died at Great River Hospice House, West Burlington, Iowa, on Saturday, August 23, 2014.

Born on July 11, 1948 in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Paul F. and Doris E. Ford McCann.

Jill was a graduate of Notre Dame High School. She enjoyed making pies, sewing, crocheting, playing cards and board games. She also enjoyed drawing, art projects and spending time with her nieces and nephews. She was a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church.

She is survived by two sisters, Joyce (Joseph) Walz of Brighton, Colorado and Jan (Bob) Green of Burlington, Iowa; two brothers, Gerald (Priscilla) McCann of Lewes, Delaware and Jim McCann of Burlington, Iowa; 26 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, JoAnn Latta and Jane Griffel; and sister-in-law, Margaret Ann McCann.

The graveside ash committal service for Jill McCann will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa. Fr. Marty Goetz will officiate. No formal visitation is planned. Friends and family are invited to meet at the gravesite for the service.

Ruby Mae Walton, age 80 of Stronghurst, Illinois died at 4:50 a.m. Saturday August 23, 2014 at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst. She was born October 25, 1933, the daughter of Arthur F. and Olive E. Kelly Walton.

Miss Walton lived in the Washington, Illinois area for many years before moving to Stronghurst. She was employed as a Registered Nurse for Proctor Hospital in Peoria for over forty years and later worked at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst, until her retirement. She was a past member of the former Olena Community Baptist Church and a current member of the Stronghurst Christian Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Barbara Scheuermann of Monmouth, IL, Carol Snyder of Donnellson, IA, two brothers, Marion and Pat Walton, both of Lyndon, IL, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers and sisters.

The funeral service for Miss Walton will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday August 28, 2014 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Garden Cemetery in Morton, Illinois. A memorial fund has been established. Condolences may be left at banksandbeals.com.
