Obituaries Wednesday November 12th

Bart R. Nordstrom, 76, of Burlington, died at 5:30 AM Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at his home.

Born October 10, 1938, in Burlington, he was the son of  Barton Russell and Gladys Kords Nordstrom. On March 15, 1969, he married Carole J. Weiler in Burlington.

Bart worked for J. I. Case Co. for 25 years as a Tool & Die Maker. Prior to that he worked for General Electric for 13 years.

He was a 1957 graduate of Mediapolis High School and a 1968 graduate of Southeastern Community College, receiving his associate’s degree in Tool & Die Making.

He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving from January 21, 1960 until September 30, 1963, being stationed in Germany and England.

He was a member of UAW Local #807 and American Legion Post 52.  He enjoyed golfing, gardening, hanging out at the cabin, riding his 4-wheeler, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Carole; two sons, Dr. Robert B. (Judy) Nordstrom of Springfield, IL, and Christopher J. (Teri) Nordstrom of Burlington; one daughter, Dana A. (John) Sandell of Gamaliel, AR; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and  several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Charles Nordstrom, and one sister, Margaret Larson.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, November 13, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM Friday, November 14, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mr. Nordstrom will be 10:00 AM Friday, November 14, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Dean Graber officiating and full military honors rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.  A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home following the service.  Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory following the service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.

Chad Eric Gall, 43, of Burlington, died at 9:05 AM Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born October 28, 1971, in Peoria, IL, he was the son of Rick and Trudy Archdale Gall. On June 13, 1998, he married Karen Elizabeth Weiler in Burlington.

Chad was a financial counselor for Great River Medical Center for 10 years.  He also worked at Fox Appliance and Lowe’s

He was a 1990 graduate of Union High School, Biggsville, Illinois.

He was a diehard racing fan, owning several race cars.

Survivors include his wife, Karen; one daughter, Rebecca Gall at home; his parents, Rick and Trudy Gall of Biggsville; paternal grandparents, Dale and Mary Gall of Oquawka; one brother, L.D. Gall of Bettendorf, IA; fours sisters, Rudi (Aaron) Cole of Janesville, WI, Heather Lant of Stronghurst, IL, Hollie Shrader of Stronghurst, IL, and Karli Hedden of Stronghurst, IL; his father and mother-in-law, Mark and Joyce Weiler; one brother-in-law, Eric (Angie) Weiler of Coralville, IA; one sister-in-law, Gretchen Weiler of Ft. Belvoir, VA; and nieces and nephews, Aly and Sadie Gall, Kylie, Gavin and Annie Cole, Todd and Kaitlyn Lant, Hunter and Rylie Shrader, Logan Boughton, Jake and Zach Weiler, and Zach and Kaylee Webb.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, three aunts, and one uncle.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, November 14, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home.

The memorial service for Mr. Gall will be 10:30 AM Saturday, November 15, 2014, at First United Church of Christ with Pastor JudyAnn Morse officiating.   A time of food and fellowship will be held at First United Church of Christ following the service.  Private burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for his daughter’s education, a scholarship for a West Central High School student, and Great River Hospice House.
