Obituaries Friday July 15th

Katrina Marie Gerdom, 40, of West Burlington, died at 8:49 AM Thursday, July 14, 2016, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

 

Born April 11, 1976, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Peter Craig and Barbara Jean Knopp Johnson. On October 11, 1997, she married Jeffrey Richard Gerdom in Burlington.

 

Katrina was a CNA at the Great River Medical Center for 20 years.

 

She was a 1994 graduate of Burlington High School and graduated from Southeastern Community College in 1996.

 

She was a member of the West Burlington Christian Church. She enjoyed shopping, spending time with her family, watching her nephew race, crafting, camping, playing with her dogs, and being outdoors. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Burlington Aerie #150.

 

Survivors include her husband; her parents of Burlington, one daughter, Olivia Marie Gerdom at home; one brother, Mathew (Danielle) Johnson of Omaha, NE; one sister, Julie (Jeff) Werner of Burlington; nine nieces and nephews, Danielle, Dillan and Dalton Roth, Cole and Hattie Werner, Presley, Ryker, Madden and Harlow Johnson;, four great nephews, one great-niece.

 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

 

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Sunday, July 17, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory.

 

The memorial service for Mrs. Gerdom will be 10:00 AM Monday, July 18, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Russ Lance officiating.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.  A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Eagles Club following the burial.

 

A memorial has been established for Olivia’s education.

Mary Magdalene May, 81, of Burlington, died at 6:41 AM, Thursday, July 14, 2016, at the Great River Medical Center.

 

Born December 12, 1934, in Kansas City, MO, she was the daughter of Arty Lee Robert and Edna Viola Thompson Williams. On May 10, 1959, she married Loren Lindell May in Kansas City, MO. He died September 1, 2012.

 

Mary was a homemaker and worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield and the Oak Street Baptist Church day care.

 

She enjoyed car rides, flower gardening, reading, cooking, playing bingo and cards.  She cherished time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

Survivors include four sons, Michael (Sherry) May, Jeffrey (Linda) May, Robert (Darcie) May, Kevin May all of Burlington; 12 grandchildren; Janelle May, Natalie Helvik, Ryan May, Zachary (Amanda) May, Kelsey (Josh) Clark, Taylor May, Nick May, Hillary May, Sierra May, Rachel May, Dalton May, and Kylie May; 12 great-grandchildren, Phoenix, Weston, Alec, Luca, Jamesy, Josalin, Jolie, Landon, Mason, Lexi, Grayson and Parker; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents.

 

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory.

 

The funeral service for Mrs. May will be 10:00 AM Thursday, July 21, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory with Chaplain Randy Gearhart officiating.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.  A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory following the burial.

 

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the American Diabetes Association.

Mrs. Evelyn Elaine Massner, 75, of rural Burlington died at 6:16 a.m. Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born March 17, 1941 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Joseph and Minnie (Zaugg) Siegle.  On August 22, 1965 she married Dale E. Massner at Oakville Apostolic Christian Church.

Mrs. Massner was a graduate of Oakville High School and the University of Iowa.  She was a homemaker.  Mrs. Massner was a member of Oakville Community Church and St. John’s Church of Flint River Township.  She enjoyed gardening, flowers, bird watching, feeding the birds, stamping, and card making.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Dale Massner of rural Burlington; three sons, Keith (Catherine O’Sullivan) Massner of Las Vegas, Nevada, Dwayne (Kelly Hahn) Massner of Strasburg, Colorado and Scott (Sammi Murray) Massner of Center Point, Iowa; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

Friends may call from noon until 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 20th, at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m.

The funeral service for Mrs. Massner will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 21st, at Lunning Chapel with Pastors Jim Ruberg and Wally Reynolds officiating.  Interment will be in Edwards Cemetery, rural Oakville.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House.
