Des Moines, Ia (The Des Moines Register) — Iowa schools will receive a 2.3% increase in per-pupil state aid under a bill passed by both chambers of the state Legislature on Wednesday.

The Des Moines Register reports that the bill’s passage was a compromise between Republicans in the Senate and House, who met in the middle after passing school funding bills with differing amounts three weeks ago.

According to the bill passed Wednesday, the state will invest an additional $85.57 million in supplemental state aid for Iowa schools. That amount is in addition to a package of more than $13 million that has already been signed by Gov. Kim Reynolds to address funding inequities next year.

The state’s overall K-12 education budget is nearly $3.4 billion.
