West Point man arrested on multiple charges

Burlington, Ia-  The Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a West Point man on multiple charges.

At about 1:10 AM Monday, Des Moines County Sheriff’s Deputies located a vehicle parked in a park after closing hours in the 3000 block of Spring Lake Rd.  Deputies made contact with a male subject in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. The subject refused to identify himself and advised deputies he had a warrant for his arrest.

Deputies asked him to exit the vehicle but he refused.  The individual was removed from the vehicle while resisting. He continued to resist deputies attempts to place him in handcuffs outside the vehicle and a taser was used to subdue the suspect.

Once placed under arrest the subject was identified as 47-year-old Michael Luis Novoa, of West Point, IA.

Deputies searched Novoa’s vehicle and located Marijuana, Methamphetamine, Drug Paraphernalia, a Knife with an 8 inch Blade, and ammunition inside the vehicle.

Novoa was transported to the Des Moines County Jail and charged with Interference with Official Acts, Possession of a Controlled Substance: Marijuana, Possession of a Controlled Substance: Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Trespass, Carrying Weapons, and Possession or Dominion and Control of Firearms, Offensive Weapons, and Ammunition by Felons and Others.
