Marceine Cynthia Dawson, 74, of Burlington, died Saturday, September 24, 2022, at home.

Born March 24, 1948, in Fort Madison, IA, she was the daughter of Dwight Henry and Bertha Crowson Dawson. She was married to Larry Tinder for many years, but later divorced. They remained close friends.

She graduated Harmony High School in Farmington, Iowa then attended college in Washington DC.

Marceine was an office worker for several years. She worked for Union Electric in Fort Madison. She moved to Washington DC, where she began work for an electric company.

She attended New Boston Baptist Church, as a child. Marceine was a member of Spring Grove United Methodist Church. She loved to decorate houses, listening to music and attending music festivals all over the country.

Survivors include former husband, Larry Tinder; two sisters, Vivian (William) Smith of St Peters, MO and Ester (Jesse) Brooks of Fort Madison, IA; brother, Henry Leo Dawson of Cedar Rapids, IA; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Edith Dula and Nellie Bradley, one brother, Chester Dawson, one brother-in-law, Jesse Brooks, and one sister-in-law, Mildred Dawson.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Dennis Eugene Ohlmutz, 79, of Burlington, died Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at the Azria Health Prairie Ridge in Mediapolis.

Born April 6, 1943, in Burlington, he was the son of Henry Charles and Helen Mae Gladman Ohlmutz. On March 19, 1982, he married Sherry Ann Cheeley in Burlington, Iowa. She died on April 8, 2019.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from 1964 until 1968. Dennis worked for Chitten & Eastman as a computer operator and later became a programmer.

He enjoyed watching TV, building and working on computers, and writing software.

Survivors include two daughters, Shawna (Tim) Brown of Burlington and Shannon (Darren) Daily of Fort Madison; son, Tom (Kathy) Ohlmutz of St. Louis, MO; grandson, Hunter McBride of Burlington; and sister, Marilyn Gerth of Arizona City, AZ.

Besides his wife of 37 years, he was preceded in death by his parents, brother, David Richard Ohlmutz and sister, Susan Keith.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

There will be no visitation or services.

Ruth Ann Schiedel, 59, of LaHarpe, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at the OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois.

Ruth Ann was born June 28, 1963 in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Bob and Sandra (Olson) Dowell. On December 10, 2011 she married Jeff Schiedel in LaHarpe.

Ruth Ann was a graduate of Dallas City High School. Following high school she received her associates degree from Carl Sandburg College in Carthage, Illinois. She worked as a heavy equipment operator for the last 22 years with the IUOE Local 649 in Peoria.

Ruth Ann enjoyed being outdoors. She loved riding motorcycles, horses, boating, fishing and camping. She also enjoyed attending her children’s sporting events.

Survivors include her husband: Jeff; two children: Bronco Oliver and Bobbie Sue (Tanner Icenogle) Oliver all of LaHarpe; her father: Bob Dowell of Dallas City, Illinois; two step-children: Jacob Schiedel and Jessica Johnson both of LaHarpe; two step-grandchildren: Jordan and Austin; one brother: Steve Dowell of LaHarpe; one sister: Kathy Quigley of Biggsville, Illinois and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother: Sandra.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

Valentina (Sereda) Duckstein, 71, of Burlington, died Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born July 14, 1951, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Harry and Polina Rokitiauska Sereda. On August 24, 1974, she married Gary Lee Duckstein at the West Avenue Baptist Church in Burlington, Iowa.

Val graduated from Burlington Community High School in 1970.

She was a member of the Gold Wings Road Riders. Val enjoyed arts and crafts, going to flea markets and watching game shows. She cherished spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Gary of Burlington; daughter, Tammy (Ralph) Meyer of Burlington; three grandchildren, Zachary (Nicolle) Determan of Nebraska, Grant (Alyssa) Jones of Burlington, Rebecca Richards of Burlington; and one great-grandchild, Brielle Determan; brothers, Stan (Lorraine) Sereda of Spokane, WA, Vic (Lila) Sereda, Jim Sereda and Jon (Lily) Sereda all of Burlington; sister, Bonnie (Jack) Warnock of Liberty, MO; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Steve and Mike Sereda, and one great-granddaughter, Trisslyn Marie Jones.

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mrs. Duckstein will be 1:00 PM Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Shane A. McCampbell officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.

Irene Alma Orr Shutt, 100, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of New London, died Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at Henry County Health Center, Mt. Pleasant.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 7, 2022 at Elliott Chapel, New London. An Eastern Star ceremony will be included in the service. Visitation will begin after 9:00 AM Friday at the funeral home with the family receiving friends for one hour prior to the service. According to her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Elliott Chapel. Inurnment will be held in Long Creek Cemetery immediately following the service. A memorial has been established to the New London United Methodist Church.
