Burlington, IA-  The Burlington Police Department has announced that the Clothesline Project is coming to Memorial Auditorium on Tuesday, October 17 from 5 pm until 7 pm.

According to a news release, The Clothesline Project is a visual display of violence statistics that often go ignored. It includes shirts decorated by a survivor of violence or by someone who has lost a loved one to violence.

The color of each shirt represents a different type of violence.

The purpose of the project is to increase awareness of the impact of violence and abuse, to honor a survivor’s strength to continue and to provide another avenue for them to courageously break the silence that often surrounds their experience.

A Short ceremony will begin at 5 PM, and the remainder of that time will allow attendees to examine the shirts decorated by survivors or loved ones, create their own shirts, and partake in refreshments and conversation.
