Mary Susan Wilson, 68, of Burlington, died Monday, October 30, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born September 24, 1955, in Twin Falls, ID, she was the daughter of Edward Marcellus and Rilla B. Hammock McDade. She married Bill Wilson and together had 2 children. They later divorced.

Mary graduated from Burlington High School. She continued her education at SCC , where she received a degree in nursing.

After college, she started working as a RN in Fort Madison before transferring to Burlington Medical Center. She continued working for Great River Medical Center in the Acute Care Unit for many years.

Survivors include her children Amanda Pace of Burlington, and Andrew Wilson of Flat Lick, KY; grandchildren, Hunter, Brylee, and Landrie; sister, Amy Allen of Burlington; two brothers, Joe (Barb) McDade of Overland Park, KS, and Scott (Kim) McDade of Spring Hill, KS; cousin, Carolyn in Georgia and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, former husband, Bill Wilson and dear friend, Tracy Howe.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

There will be no service at this time.

Barbara Jean Boyd Taylor, 83, of Dallas City, IL, died Friday, November 10, 2023, at The Kensington in Fort Madison.

Born December 23, 1939, in Anson, MO, she was the daughter of Harl Wesley and Marvel Lenora Cole Boyd. She graduated high school from Sperry Union in 1958. Barbara married the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Taylor on November 23, 1973. He passed away December 15, 2011.

Barbara worked at IRC in Burlington until they closed. She then went to work at Winegard in Burlington and worked there many years until her retirement.

Barbara loved the Mississippi River and was a member of the Burlington Ski Kats for many years. She was awarded Queen of the Burlington Ski Kats Club at her summer show during Steamboat Days in 1970. She had a huge heart and had a great love of animals and nature. Yard work was an everyday event with Barbara. Her yard was always perfectly manicured and flowers were delicately placed. Barbara also really loved to go shopping.

Survivors include her stepdaughters, Cindy (Dennis) Smith of Burlington, Amy (Dale) Meth of Stronghurst, IL; grandchildren, Cody (Megan) Haigh of Rock Island, IL, Taylor (Alisa) Smith of Burlington; great-grandchildren, Avery Smith, Ashton Smith and baby boy Haigh due in March 2024; sisters, Donna (Larry) McCarty of Fort Madison, Karen (Ray) Schnedler of Keosauqua; two sister-in-laws, Peggy Boyd of Vero Beach, FL, Dolly Boyd of Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Merlin Boyd of Loveland, CO, Annabell Benefield of Birmingham, AL, Ronald Boyd of Vero Beach, FL and grandson, Dalton Meth.

Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The funeral service for Mrs. Taylor will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh Funeral Service immediately following the service. Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park.

A memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice and the PAW Animal Shelter.

Nancy Ann Schulte, 81, of Burlington, Iowa died Friday, November 10, 2023 at her home.

Born August 28, 1942 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Eugene Hart Nugent and Mildred Bell Gerlach Nugent.

After attending grade school in Wapello, Iowa, and Washington, Iowa, the family moved to San Diego, California, where Nancy attended high school. Upon returning to Iowa, she finished high school at Regina High School in Iowa City, Iowa. After receiving Bachelor and Masters degrees from the University of Iowa, she taught Spanish at Regina High School.

In 1963, she married James Bryan Schulte in Iowa City, Iowa. They later divorced but remained close friends (as they were parents and grandparents) to wonderful children and grandchildren.

After moving to Burlington, Iowa, she taught briefly at James Madison Jr. High. Beginning in 1968 she was a Spanish instructor at Southeastern Community College for 32 years. In the early 80s, at the suggestion of her good friend, Nancy invited Jim “Coach” Wyatt to the Blinding Boogie Bash. This turned out to be one of her greatest decisions as it led to a life partnership that lasted over 30 years. In April of 2018 they decided to make it official with an intimate wedding ceremony, surrounded by friends and family.

She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. Philanthropy was very important to Nancy. She was always helping people. She volunteered as a domestic abuse victims advocate and was active in the local chapter of Citizens for Peace. As a member of the Des Moines County Democrats, she was instrumental in getting Tom Harkin elected in addition to working on numerous losing presidential campaigns. Thankfully her losing streak was broken when she was the county chair for Barack Obama in 2008.

In addition to her husband, “Coach”, her family includes sons, Michael (Rebecca), Christopher (Angela), Matthew (Stacy); daughter-in-law, Dawn Schulte, former husband, Bryan (Jane); sister, Mary (Kevin); brother, Tom; grandchildren, Chris and Elizabeth, Rachel (Jake) and Sam Schulte, Gracie Neal, Keegan Finch; stepdaughter, Linda (Steve) Wilson; many wonderful nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and brother, Mike.

Her body has been donated to the University of Iowa College of Medicine.

Visitation with the family to receive friends will be 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The Memorial Service for Nance will be 2:00 PM Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street with Jerry Rigdon officiating. Following the service, a time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh Funeral Service.

Memorials have been established for an SCC Scholarship and Zion UCC Social Justice.

Richard E. “Rick” Parrott Jr., 74, of Burlington, died Thursday, November 9, 2023 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born November 2, 1949 in Burlington, he was the son of Richard and Mary Lou (Ertz) Parrott Sr. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1967. On July 12, 1969 he married Sharon Smelser in Burlington.
Rick was a truck driver for 50 years. He drove for Walmart for 35 of those years. Rick enjoyed fishing, trucking and watching NASCAR (especially the Earnharts). He loved spending time with his grandchildren and spoiling them.
Survivors include his wife Sharon of Burlington; one daughter Kim Parrott of Washington; two sons William “Bill” Parrott and Richard E. (Wealthy Moser) Parrott III both of Burlington; six grandchildren Tyler Parrott, Haley (Austin) Latcham, Trace Parrott, Lexi (Brandon) Crawley, Blake Reusch and Savannah Parrott; two great-grandchildren Ellie Latcham and Kye William Richard Crawley
Rick was preceded in death by his parents.
Per his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. There will be no services at this time.
A memorial has been established for great-grandson Kye William Richard Crawley. who was born the same day his great grandpa passed away.

Lois J. Osborne, 99, of West Burlington, died Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born June 3, 1924, in Danville, she was the daughter of Joseph Edward and Laura Bell Thomes Grinstead. On March 18, 1946, she married Delvan Francis Osborne in Burlington. He passed away December 31, 1999.

Lois was a homemaker for most of her life. She also worked for IRC, Burlington Basket Factory, and Kirlin’s Hallmark.

She was of the Protestant faith and a member of the Woodmen of the World. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and sewing. She made a lot of her children’s clothes as they were growing up. She was always busy doing something. She loved to spend time cooking, toiling in her garden, and canning the wonderful things that came out of it.

Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Applegarth and Barbara Heater both of Burlington; two sons, Ronald (Katie) Osborne of Glendale, AZ, and Delferd (Patricia) Osborne of Sperry; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; five sisters; three step brothers; two step sisters; son-in-law, Michael Applegarth; and grandson, Robert Ranck.

Visitation with the family to receive friends will be 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM Friday, November 17, 2023 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The funeral service for Mrs. Osborne will be 2:00 PM Friday, November 17, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street with Pastor Dean Graber officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Donald A. Carpenter, 80, of Burlington, died Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in Fort Madison.
Born February 9, 1943 in Ottumwa, Iowa, he was the son of Donald and Irene (Jones) Carpenter Sr.
He graduated from Ottumwa High School and then served in the United States Navy for four years during the Vietnam War. On July 13, 1969 he married Connie L. Johnson in Monmouth, IL.
Donald worked at I.A.A.P. for several years and then worked for the City of Burlington Streets Department, retiring in 2004.
He was a member of American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees trade union. He enjoyed gardening and yard work and riding his Harley. He liked to watch sports on T.V.
Survivors include his wife Connie of Burlington; sister Vickie Wilks of Ottumwa, Iowa; two nieces and numerous in-laws.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
A graveside service and inurnment will be at a later date.
