Burlington man sentenced to 8 years in prison for firearms charges

Burlington, IA-  A Burlington man was sentenced on January 24th, 2024 to 8 years in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a felon.

According to public court documents, 32-year-old Brandon Allen Haynes of Burlington was arrested for possessing a loaded pistol and magazines as a felon following a standoff with law enforcement on December 15th, 2022.

Haynes had previously been convicted in state court of two felony charges, which bars him from possessing a firearm.

Following his prison term, Haynes will be required to serve three years of supervised release.

United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made the announcement. This case was investigated by the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office, the Burlington Police Department, and the West Burlington Police Department.
