Burlington, IA-  The Des Moines County Emergency Management Agency has announced that March 25th through March 29th is Severe Weather Awareness Week.

According to Des Moines County Emergency Management Coordinator Shannon Prado, Severe Weather Awareness Week is an opportunity to highlight the importance of being aware of and prepared for, severe weather.

One of the major components of the week will be the annual Iowa Statewide Tornado Drill, which will take place at 10 AM on Wednesday, March 27th.

There will not be a test watch or warning issued through the Emergency Alert System. However, everyone is being asked to participate in a drill wherever they are at 10:00 AM as part of the Required Weekly Test of the All-Hazard Weather Radio System. The Des Moines County outdoor warning sirens will sound at the same time, 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 27th.

In addition to this drill and testing of the siren system, the week will also feature safety tips each day. These topics will be featured on the Des Moines County Emergency Management Agency Facebook page.
