Macomb, Ill.-  The Illinois State Police is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Macomb.

According to the ISP, the shooting took place at about 10 PM on Saturday, March 16th, when officers responded to a call of an active domestic disturbance in the 900 block of N. Charles St., Macomb.

After reviewing bodycam footage, evidence, witness interviews, and autopsy reports, preliminary investigative findings indicate officers encountered the subject with a knife.

The subject, later identified as 57-year-old Anthony George, then ducked out of view of officers and emerged holding a 4-year-old child in front of his body while holding a knife around the child’s throat and another around the waist.

Evidence shows that an officer fired a single shot and both George and the child suffered fatal gunshot injuries.

ISP has met with the families of both the child and the subject. Once its investigation is final, ISP will provide all investigative reports and evidence to the McDonough County State’s Attorney’s Office.
