Macomb Police Chief to depart, Interim Chief announced

Macomb, Ill.-  The Mayor of Macomb, Ill. Has announced that the city’s police chief has accepted a new position and will be leaving the department, and an interim chief has been appointed.

According to a news release, Macomb Police Chief Jerel Jones is leaving the department to serve as Chief of Police for the village of Flossmoor, Illinois effective March 27th.

Chief Jones was appointed as Transitional Chief in March 2021, and became the first African American Chief of Police in the city’s history, upon being appointed to Chief of Police in May 2021.

Mayor Inman also announced that effective Friday, March 24th, Macomb Police Department Operations Commander Jeff Hamer will assume the role of Interim Chief.

A Farewell Open House for Chief Jones will be held Friday, March 24th at Macomb City Hall.
